A Field Guide to Tasmanian Fungi

book
posted on 2023-05-22, 10:18 authored by Genevieve Gates, David RatkowskyDavid Ratkowsky
Fungi are fascinating. Originally they were both feared and revered on account of their poisons and hallucinatory powers. A wide variety of people, not only nature lovers, but also land managers and conservation biologists are becoming more aware of the value of these organisms to measure environmental health or degradation. Perhaps, to some people, "fungi" is just another word for "mushrooms", but others will understand that these relatively complex organisms are not only abundant in the environment but have an amazing diversity of beautiful shapes, forms, and colours and that the familiar field mushroom is only one of those forms. A Field Guide to Tasmanian Fungi will enable readers to appreciate this diversity and the extraordinary variety of fungi that are present in the island state of Tasmania.
