Climate Change and Rural Child Health

Climate change is one of the biggest threats to human health in the 21st Century. Many climate change ‘hotspots’ lie in rural and remote communities. Within these communities rural children represent a most vulnerable group that has been relatively neglected in the climate change research. In this book researchers and health professionals across the globe have gathered together to focus international attention on the impacts of climate change on rural child health and appropriate responses. The book includes contributions from some of the world’s leading climate change researchers who were asked to explore the implications of their research for rural child health. The chapters offer conceptual understandings, implications for health and allied health practice, and analyses of appropriate policy responses. The book examines special issues in climate change and rural child health, providing disease-based analyses as well as consideration of education and development assistance issues. It also offers an examination of country-level issues, suggesting the great diversity of impacts and the importance of considering regional effects.
