Thisvolume presents the detailed results of fieldwork undertaken by a Spanish archaeological team (drawn mainly, but not exclusively, from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid) under the direction of Victor Fernández in and around Lake Tana in central northwestern Ethiopia between 2006 and 2014. The project focused on revealing through archaeological excavation, topographical and geophysical survey the physical evidence for the profound socio-cultural and ideological impact of the Portuguese-led Jesuit missions of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries on the Oriental Orthodox court of the Gonderene emperors of Ethiopia.
