Broome occupies a tiny portion of coastline in the Kimberley region of far North Western Australia (Figure 1). From an aerial perspective, the town spreads seductively below, clusters of single story buildings partially hidden amongst vigorous leafy green. Broome lies vulnerably sandwiched between the deep milky aqua of salt-laden Roebuck Bay to the West and the encroaching creep of ochre desert to the East, where horizontal terrain stretches hundreds of kilometres and melts into hazy horizon.
