Mt Field is a small mountain plateau the highest point of which, Mt Field West (1434 mettes), overlooks a production forest in the Florentine Valley that today isolates it from the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. While biodiversity has become the driving force in contemporary namre conservation, it was the scenic values of a landform, Russell Falls, now a Tasmanian tourism icon, that first ttiggered conservation initiatives in this part of Tasmania.
