This chapter explores the potential synergies between global education, critical literacy, instructional practices in media literacy education, and the development of young people‘s advocacy skills in the context of education for democratic citizenship. Using advertisements and other resources produced by a leading Australian not-for-profit organisation, World Vision, as its literacy platform, the chapter explores some of the teaching and learning complexities around the interpretation and representation of media texts. The chapter draws upon data generated by World Vision Australia (WVA) teaching and learning resources and also reflects upon the application of the Four Roles Literacy Model in relation to global education developed by Allan Luke and Peter Freebody. The authors conclude that the global context offers a rich setting for young people to engage in reading the world and to explore advocacy opportunities.
