Integrating Health Informatics Into Australian Higher Education Health Profession Curricula

Health informatics has reached the point where it is ubiquitous, yet in Australia, healthcare professionals’ education, at multiple levels, rarely includes health informatics education. This chapter provides a background to the current health informatics in Australia and situated within a global context. Challenges and possible solutions to the issue of healthcare professional informatics education are discussed. We provide four case study examples where health informatics has successfully been introduced into the curricula within one Australian university. These case studies provide context that demonstrate the evolution of health informatics within the higher education sector.
