Just return for dedicated investment: Internationalisation, Japanese language teacher education, and student expectations

Internationalisation, Universities, and the Social Context. My project in this discussion is to examine the experiences ofoverseas students from Japan who have sought qualifications from a local university in the field of Japanese language teaching. I wish to consider these experiences against both the general background of the intemationalisation ofAustralian higher education which has occurred in the previous half decade and the social context which has scaffolded this phenomenon. I will focus on the manner in which the expectations ofoverseas students enrolled in a local education faculty. particularly in relation to school-based practicum work, sometimes severely contradict the expectations of the systems whose standards they are required to meet. J will also discuss the diverse responses made by students to the pressures experienced and make suggestions for policy makers and program designers.
