Oral History and Human Geography

This chapter describes how oral history can be used in geographical research. After defining the meaning and scope of oral history as a term and a method of approach to qualitative research, we outline the aspects that distinguish it from other forms of interviewing. These features include establishing rapport, dealing with sensitive issues, understanding the ethics of interviewing, knowing how to ask questions, and appreciating the Importance of recorded sound quality.
