Pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions for cognitive impairment and dementia related to type 2 diabetes and metabolic disturbances in aging
Few pharmacological interventions are available for the management of dementia in general, and to date none modify the underlying disease process. Similarly, there currently no treatments are available that target cognitive impairment in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) (Koekkoek, Kappelle, van den Berg, Rutten, & Biessels, 2015). However, there have been a number of clinical trials and observational studies that can guide potential future avenues of investigation.
