The Hague Convention on Choice of Court Agreements - Should the European Union's Footsteps Be Followed?

posted on 2023-05-22, 17:37 authored by Poomintr SooksripaisarnkitPoomintr SooksripaisarnkitThe Hague Convention on the Choice of Court Agreements (‘Convention’) drafted under the auspice of the Hague Conference on Private International Law was concluded on 30 June 2005. It was ratified by Mexico on 26 September 2007. With the ratification by the European Union on 11 June 2015, the Convention has come into force on 1 October 2016. Therefore, the question is whether other countries should follow the European Union’s footsteps in ratifying and giving effect to this Convention. This chapter will consider the said question.
