Cut Curated by Simon Mee This exhibition focuses on the work of Megan Keating, Pamela See, Emma Van Leest, Sharon Goodwin and Sangeeta Sandrasegar. Much art making depends on mark making or the placement of an object or sculpture within a given area. By making art by cutting, the artists removes or destroys to create, and this void defines and creates the art itself. It has creative and slightly poetic parallel with the 'Big Bang'. Despite or perhaps deliberately in spite of cut paper works being often relegated to being craft or folk arts as done by women these artists use this methods to engage in the contemporary visual arts. They may informed by their feminity, family or cultural backgrounds but they are keen not to be defined as artists by these identities but to engage in a broader dialogue. 'The cut' defines and comments on areas and spaces within a range of spheres including the conceptual, the physical, the personal, language, identity and decoration.
