The works presented in 'Colour Me' tested strategies in abstract artworks that could communicate instability and uncertainty. Through the use of modest scraps of industrial waste, fragments and offcuts of glitzy synthetic materials manipulated thourgh intense hand-forming processes such as layering and binding with stretch-wrap plastic, Colour Bind #1, and Colour Bind #2 creatively manifested contradictory sensations of pleasure and discomfort. The production of these new works led me to more deeply understand the expressive power of discordant combinations of vibrant colour. In addition I developed visual strategies to evoke emotions such as tension and trauma articulated through the material qualities of stretched and bound plastics. As affecive prompts these combinations of ordinary materials and intense forming process in the works presented, simultanaeous evoked both a sense of attraction and repulsion. These two works led to further exploration of this dynamic within subsequent works explored throughout my PhD works presented in 2016.
