This research studies the spatial implications of dwelling in flooding areas and addresses evacuation, patterns of movement and the change of the interior by the rising of water. It questions the interior of contemporary Dutch housing. The project is informed by hydrology, the history of Dutch landscape, flooding, disaster management and evacuation scenarios. The research proposes a new housing typology. The outcome contributed in Dutch media to the national debate on the change of perception of the Dutch landscape and the permanent threat of flooding. The study contributes to the global discourse on living in flooding areas and proposes an alternative on occupancy in ‘wet’ regions. Published in Undercover by Sun publishers (ISBN 90-6168-64-11999) Part of the TV documentary ‘Follow the stream’ directed by E. Dunleavy and broadcasted on 15/03/2000 (RVU). Nominated for the Dutch Newspaper NRC-competition on innovative proposals for flooding areas. Exhibited in the Dutch Architecture Institute in Rotterdam and the Architecture Centre in Groningen.
