This catalogue accompanied the Iconic Industry Exhibition, including the Vacancy and Preservation Symposium and previous related events; including Telematic Cafe (at the project's Open Studio); and the London Festival of Architecture (Patrick Heide Gallery). As well as representing the work of the curators, artists and students, the catalogue’s text critically discusses how insights, practices and capacities at the interface of art and architecture can drive alternative visions of ex-industrial sites beyond their usual pragmatic utilization. The catalogue extended the exhibition’s expressions of how community engagement and visual strategies to provoke alternative perceptions, values and insights into ex-industrial architecture, by combining analysis of the artistic works of the exhibition with the symposium’s debate about ex-industrial sites and their possible futures along with roundtable discussions on deindustrialisation/materialities, and memory/place/collaborations between architects, artists and communities.
