The Master and the Apprentice exhibition is in response to the contribution Dr Troy Ruffels has had on four Launceston based artists, Chris Morgan, Jen Dickens, Paul Snell, and Scott Cunningham. These artists completed their Master of Fine Arts degree under the tutelage of Dr Ruffels, forging a strong bond, exhibiting widely together in a number of collaborative shows. As artists, their works are held in numerous institutions and galleries throughout Australia and beyond. As teachers, they have all made a significant contribution to arts education and all continue to share their skills and knowledge with art students across Tasmania. Currently, Dr Ruffels is a Lecturer in Art at the School of Creative Arts and Media, Chris Morgan TIC of Graphic Design at Launceston College, Jen Dickens is Head of Photography at Newstead College, Paul Snell is Head of Art at Launceston Church Grammar School and Scott Cunningham is the Head of Visual and Performing Arts at Launceston College. Ruffels work in the exhibition continues to research a creative practice enquiry extending the capacity of emergent photographic practice to evoke notions of kinship and belonging. It explores how photographic imagery can communicate complex and nuanced relationships that form with a place.
