Volcanoes are a perfect combination of art and science. They are simultaneously compelling and repellent; their danger is ironically what draws us to them. Volcano Lover is a multimedia installation by artist Lucy Bleach over two sites at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and Highfield House, Stanley. Volcano Lover investigates the communities who live around The Nut in Stanley, an extinct volcanic plug in North West Tasmania; Mt Wellington, an igneous intrusion that looms over Hobart, and Yasur Volcano, Tanna Island, Vanuatu, one of the world’s most active volcanoes.
