Wayfinding: Derwent River
Wayfinding: Derwent River engages with the research field of place-based imaging and imagination. My work researches a visual language to engage with lutruwita Tasmania and in particular the site of the Derwent River as a settler Australian artist. The work tests Deleuze’s theory that a rhizomatic map is detachable, connectable, reversible, and modifiable. The rhizomatic theory is used as an alternative to the western gridding mapping system that colonized the land. The work tests the rhizome theory through the process of printmaking which has a long association with the colonizing practices of mapping.
