Visual methodologies can effectively communicate complex ideas or contexts to diverse audiences. Here, we present a rich picture of the West Coast local government areas in Tasmania as it pertains to community health and wellbeing. Using both routinely collected data and anecdotal perspectives from community members, imagery and text is used in the rich picture as an entry point for understanding the complex and interrelated factors that contribute to community health and wellbeing outcomes. The rich picture was created to facilitate a shared understanding of the of the West Coast context at a point in time among diverse stakeholders as part of a community-based systemic inquiry process. Beyond the inquiry process, the rich picture continues to be a valuable communication resource for the West Coast community and other stakeholders.
