Application of Earth observation data and spatial analytics: impacts in multi-disciplinary research
Contribution of Earth Observation [EO] data and spatial analytics in understanding local pressing problems are covered in this presentation with two case study examples.
First case study presents the integration and analysis of data from various sources including NASA derived EO data in mapping bushfire frequency in Australia with a focus in Tasmania. The integration results show that bushfire frequency is increasing in Australia.
Second case study presents the spatial tracking of tourists in Tasmania using mobile technology. Remotely collected data are analysed and the questions like, where they go? how long they stay in a particular destination? what track they follow to visit specific landmark? who they are?, are mapped and answered. The results are already useful to local industries and government organisations in Tasmania.
Finally, the presentation concludes with the application of EO data and spatial analytics in multi-disciplinary research and their impacts.
