Sustainable, future-ready health care is reliant on our abilities as health care practitioners to function amidst global change and uncertain situations. Internationally, research in education and health management is focusing on the need for graduates and professionals to possess basic but critical transversal competencies (critical thinking, innovation, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills and global citizenship). Specialty knowledge alone, without the ability to communicate, engage and collaborate with patients, our peers and stakeholders in our healthcare society is ineffective. The topic of transversal leadership is proposed as a basic but essential consideration for the effective delivery of any health service. This presentation shares related research into the thoughtful combination of transversal competencies and health leadership capabilities that can be applied across any healthcare setting and position.
