Digital Technologies in Australian Curriculum v9: Technologies - Digital Literacy, Digital Technologies, Design and Technologies
The Digital Technologies unit provides opportunities for student-teachers in the education program/degree to undertake research and demonstrate innovative applications in technologies to foster digital literacy. In this presentation, we will discuss how we introduce strategies to integrate Digital Technologies in teaching and learning, as articulated in the new Australian Curriculum v9 and impending update of the Early Years Learning Framework, to stimulate student innovation and entrepreneurship. We are exploring how we support educators to work with entities in various settings and contexts with different priorities, and how we recognise expertise beyond the institutional interests, beyond discipline, and explore what is possible through technologies for social good. We also acknowledged the importance of inclusive design (Amin, 2019) and how procedural knowledge are developed through practical problem-solving, such as through design thinking and systems thinking (OECD, 2018). As we work with our student-teachers to use emerging digital tolls and advanced features to create and communicate interactive content for a diverse audience, we envision that this will make an impact to their teaching practice, in the context of Digital Technologies across both the early childhood and school curricula. Innovative sample student projects will be featured, and we will also look at some future research possibilities, including the innovative use of augmented and virtual reality in simulation learning.
