This work has three distinct areas that is being examined; 1) What effect does preuniversity experience have on the expectations of University 2) What is the gap between the academics that teach these first year students and the expectations that the students have of the institutions 3) What is the gap between expectations and experience. The work is focused on new entrances to University. This research has three surveys run as part of this research, in orientation week with students and then in week 12, plus with academics that have taught first year students in the last three years.

So far we have done the first survey, collection 750 responses and in the process of surveying academics. This is across different discipline to see if this is a factor. The research is aimed at identifying areas that need improvement in the transition phase of a student’s life and current expectations in Malaysia.
