This paper examines the concept and practice of linguistic complexity in English textbooks from Hallidayan functional perspective. It investigates four linguistics features namely, lexical density, nominalisation, grammatical metaphor, and thematic structure. It gives useful insights into language, measuring linguistic complexity and provides implications for teaching language and literacy.
