Operationalising Health LEADS Australia in a connected environment
This paper explores the impact of the national Leadership Framework – Health LEADS Australia – on health service management researchers and practitioners in Tasmania. It focuses on the responses of the Tasmanian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the University of Tasmania (UTAS).
Expected results include the alignment of existing DHHS professional development programs to the Framework and the creation of a new in-house program based on the Framework. Unexpected results include adaptation of the Framework for use in a department that delivers both health and human services; and its mandatory alignment with a new leadership framework for state service executives. Postgraduate health management education, through the UTAS School of Medicine, has incorporated the local variant.
While this raises issues of Framework fidelity, it also demonstrates the necessity of revising products designed for any professional community of practice to the local community of place, if they are to take hold.
