Ensuring and maintaining students’ sense of belonging at University is an ongoing challenge for higher education providers, particularly as more students experience loneliness and low well-being. This session will share the findings from a recent study conducted in collaboration with the University of Tasmania, Monash University, Australian Catholic University, and the University of Queensland, which examined the causal predictors of ‘sense of belonging’ using longitudinal SES data drawing on a machine learning model. Key predictors of students’ sense of belonging will be discussed in the context of transition, connection, and retention.
