Somewhere between the swings and roundabouts: Interdisciplinarity as a tool for navigating career transitions
For decades already, educational reform in Australia has been a quagmire of political and educational agendas. In order to avoid education reform fatigue, we need to be mindful of how subtle shifts of agendas unfold and how the vernacular around those shifts can galvanise or undermine us as we go about our work. We must also understand and be attentive and agentive to the ways our words and actions can be used to perpetuate deficit characterisations that oppress individual and groups.
This is in our dealings with different disciplines, cultural interfacing, power dynamics across academia. Navigating the spaces between.
The shaping of our collective commentary of the academic experience today ‐ and the tone and language we bring to discuss and render topics therein ‐ is important, and something we contribute to.
