Teaching the Teachers Workshop
A workshop addressing current issues in medical education, specifically how best to teach doctors in training and how to train the teachers. The workshop has been designed in accordance with current adult educational theories. A series of modules, each addressing different areas in current medical education. Topics will include. Adult learning theories and their application to teaching medical students and doctors. ‘What’s the evidence?’ What research evidence is there to support current theories and practice in medical education. This includes problem based learning, use of simulators and computers etc. Future developments in medical education (including curriculum development, multiprofessional education, the internet etc.
How to teach adults. A series of interactive demonstrations covering:
• Lectures
• Skills teaching
• Scenario training
• Small group discussions (convergent and divergent
• Feedback and appraisal.
How to teach someone how to teach adults. This programme has been designed in accordance with current educational theories and practice. The components have been based upon similar principles to those used by the highly successful generic instructor courses and Teaching on the Run courses.
