The Consciousness of Tasmanian Native Food and Aboriginal People

Introduced colonial food continues to dominate the food resources of Tasmania. The landscape and oceans are managed and enforced with policies of purposeful intentions and design to sustain colonial food and to increase the introduction of foreign food. Continued consumption demands for foreign food requires the destruction of native food resources. The destruction and absence of native food impacts on the Aboriginal people of Tasmania. The Aboriginal cultural of gathering native food is acknowledged in the International Declaration of Indigenous Rights, however, the practicalities of consuming only native food as a Tasmanian Aboriginal person is almost impossible. The Tasmanian Societal consciousness of Aboriginal People continuing to exist in Tasmania significantly dimmed after colonisation. The continued historical omissions of the Tasmanian Aboriginal population has also enforced the denial and consciousness of native food and the importance of preservation for the continuation of Tasmanian Aboriginal generations.
