The unprecedented challenges of the Anthropocene epoch such as climate change, food insecurity, poverty and changing labour market conditions are too complex to be managed and understood by any one discipline or sector alone. Their understanding and solutions require frameworks and principles drawn from fields such as integral thinking (e.g. Wilber, 2001), interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity (eg Nicolescu, 2011; Morin, 1999). It is the responsibility of Universities to draw on these principles in their course offerings to ensure that graduates are well-equipped to tackle the challenges we face.
