Thermal management of an electric ferry lithium-Ion battery system

The operation requirement is to recharge the battery energy storage system within 13 minutes. This presents a thermal management problem with the battery generating excessive heat whilst charging at a rate of 3.45C. To mitigate this problem the battery was analyzed using the ANSYS Fluent software under various cooling methods applied. The results of this analysis revealed that the temperature of the battery can be maintained in the optimal range using an air cooling system.
