Aboriginal men have undertaken Bush Adventure Therapy for thousands of years, the concept, and its therapeutic benefits are not new to Australia’s First peoples. In contemporary times Aboriginal health outcomes fall far short of those experienced by non-Indigenous peoples. The Western model of health overlooks culturally appropriate, self-determined and traditional approaches to Indigenous health. This discussion will explain how Bush Adventure Therapy benefits Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander people, the unique advantages of connecting to country and developing an increased connection to culture will be explored in detail from an Aboriginal perspective.
