Australia’s ageing population has often been negatively framed in biomedical, psychological, media, political and economic commentary as a ‘silver tsunami’. This negatively impacts on the way ageing is socially understood and potentially experienced.
In this exhibition to mark Seniors Week and public talk, Dr Peta Cook, an affiliate researcher with the Institute for the Study of Social Change at the University of Tasmania, challenges such ageist discourses by drawing on the realities of older people’s lives to explore the opportunities and benefits of ageing.
