The Secretary is an installation originally created as a result of a 3 month Australia Council Residency in New York in 2013, in which Ozolins explored impact of digital technology on the publishing industry, libraries and the printed book. The work was shown in 2014 with Los Angeles based artist Tim Schwartz at the SASA Gallery (South Australian School of Art) for the exhibition Book Futures, which questioned the impact of digital technology on literature, writing and reading. It was then commissioned by curator Meryl Ryan for the Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery group exhibition Book Club, providing it with a new and extended context. It was shown alongside the work of 12 nationally and internationally significant artists who explore the materiality and symbolism of the book in extremely diverse ways.
