Two weapons manufactured in Solingen during the 19th. century were examined metallographically and chemically whereby the mechanical properties were found to correspond with those of a fine lamellar Pearlite. The manufacturing process was then simulated using a modern type of steel with a chemical composition as close as possible to that used in the manufacture of the original two swords, whereby a material with almost the same properties could be produced.
