Agility and Respect

posted on 2023-05-26, 15:38 authored by Holmes, WNThis essay recounts the author's experience of giving a keynote address at the 2009 Australian Software Engineering Conference, a conference focussed on the Agile approach to software engineering. Although the experience was nostalgic at conference, and reminded the author of his early systems engineering experiences of the 1960s, it later occurred to him that the Agile approach could well be construed as an ethical one, in particular in needing the computing professional to show respect for the users, not just for their managers, and for programmers as experts in their craft.
