Archaeology in Antarctica

journal contribution
posted on 2024-09-10, 00:48 authored by Caitlin Harvey, Andres Zarankin, Michael Pearson, Melissa A Salerno

Archaeology in Antarctica, by Andrés Zarankin, Michael Pearson and Melissa A. Salerno, aspires to comprehensively outline the archaeological and wider heritage work that has been undertaken in Antarctica and the subantarctic from the late 1950s to present. This history of archaeological work is indeed comprehensive in that it covers projects undertaken at historic huts, stations and sealing and whaling sites. However, this book goes further than simply providing a history of archaeology in Antarctica. The historical overview is confined to the first half of the book, with the second half focusing entirely on the archaeology of sealing sites in the South Shetland Islands.
