Book Review: Altruism and Christian Ethics, by Colin Grant. Cambridge University Press, 2001. 266 pp. hb. £37.50/US$59.95. ISBN 0-521-79144-8
In Altruism and Christian Ethics, Colin Grant has provided us with a wide-ranging and forensic examination of the relationship between concepts of self-interest and altruism in contemporary moral thought. His analysis concludes that a coherent understanding of altruism is best secured by locating it in a religious context and that the separation of altruism from that context is why it is an inherently elusive and ambiguous notion.
