De-mystifying pharmacoeconomics and a suggestive approach to evaluating the cost-effectiveness of antimicrobial stewardship

This is a grant report of the Novartis Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia Pharmacoeconomics grant that the author received to attend an expert workshop on the cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) by the Centre for Health Economics at the University of York, UK. Brief description of the expert workshop is provided followed by practice implications for hospital pharmacists. Given the current interest in antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) at a national and international level, an example of AMS is used to demonstrate practice implications related to CEA within hospital context.
