Widespread regret was expressed in the city on Saturday at the sad intelligence that Mr. James Backhouse Walker, F.R.G.S., of the firm of Walker and Wolfhagen, solicitors, and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Tasmania, had died from pneumonia, supervening on influenza.
Mr Walker's achievements were listed such as being a leading authority on the history of early Tasmania, he was an active member as a trustee of the Tasmanian Library. He provided charity to many, and he was a consistent supporter of the Law Society.
Many prominent dignataries attended his funeral.
