This item is listed in the contents for 1894, however the only information in the text is the following paragraph in the September proceedings. "Mr. J. R. McClymont, M.A., read a paper on "Early voyages to Papua, l5ll to 1545," which he illustrated by references to a map of the world and other charts. Ihe paper treated the subject exhaustively, and was closely listened to."

In 1843 the Horticultural and Botanical Society of Van Diemen's Land was founded and became the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science in 1844.
