Energy consumption and growth in the suctorian Podophrya fixa (Protozoa: Suctoria)

journal contribution
posted on 2023-05-16, 20:45 authored by Laybourn-Parry, J
Energy consumption and growth in Podophrya fixa fed on Colpidium campylum is described in relation to prey density at 15°C. The volume of food consumed was linearly related to the volume of food captured. Both energy consumption and growth increased up to a prey density of 30 colpidia per Podophrya, thereafter declining. Gross growth efficiencies ranged between 49.9%‐65.8%. Copyright © 1976, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
