Exploring subsidiary strategic roles in a transitional economy: Evidence from China

The study explored a typology of subsidiary strategic roles in a transitional economy by using an integration-responsiveness framework. Based on data of subsidianOes in Yunnan, a Southwestern province of China, which typifies the transitional economy of the country, the research empirically identified four strategic roles 0/ subsidiaries, including quiescent subsidian"e5. Parents were found to playa key role in shaping subsidiary strategic roles, leading to the presence of quiescent subsidiaries. Practical implications were provided/or business practices and policy making of host economies.
