Five Theses on Place (and Some Associated Remarks): A Reply to Peter Gratton - Responding to Peter Grattan's generous but provocative critique, this paper explores the relation between topos and chora, topology and chorology, time and place, history and thinking. It argues for the possibility of a thinking of place that, even though it emerges always in this place, is nevertheless able to engage with such thinking as it emerges in other places. It is only though the singularity of place that thinking emerges at all, and yet its emergence is always into a world that goes beyond any single place. The paper thus offers an elaboration of key issues in my own topological mode of thinking in a way that also engages with a broader body of thought.
