While the importance of principals as instructional leaders has established their key role in promoting high-quality teaching and learning in classrooms, there has been relatively limited research into STEM-specific instructional leadership. This is an important gap given the recent and ongoing emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education as well as the importance of STEM capability to Australia’s prosperity. In this article, we discuss what the implications of research are for the role of principals in delivering positive outcomes in STEM education.
