Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is a common psychiatric condition that causes a considerable impact on the functioning of the client and is costly to society. Fortunately, effective cognitive behavioural treatments exist, and include exposure and response prevention as the primary treatment approach. However, many clients face multiple barriers to accessing empirically supported treatment. Internet-delivered cognitive behaviour therapy (iCBT) has recently been investigated as a way to reduce barriers and improve access to empirically supported treatment for OCD. This article reviews the efficacy of iCBT for OCD and discusses the barriers to the wider dissemination of this innovative treatment format.
