Introduction to “Visualization of viscous fingering in chromatographic columns” by B.S. Broyles, R.A. Shalliker, D.E. Cherrak, G. Guiochon [J. Chromatogr. A 822 (1998) 173–187]
It is a profound pleasure and very great honour for me to be asked to select one of Georges Guiochon’s papers and to present an introduction to it as part of this special issue of Journal of Chromatography A dedicated to him. Georges Guiochon was one of the truly great scientists of our age. He had phenomenal insight into complex issues relating to chromatography, but more importantly he was extraordinarily skilled in writing and speaking about these insights in a clear and eloquent way. Because of this skill, all of the chromatographic community could benefit from Georges’ perceptive analyses of chromatographic behaviour.
