Labour force is the most important sector of a country. People of Bangladesh are engaged in various types of labour force. Participation in various labour forces depends on the country's economic. social and cultural conditions. The present study focuses on labour force structure in terms of spatial patterns and the dynamics in their temporal changes. It also discusses the characteristics of labour force by three broad categories (i.e. agriculture, non-agriculture and others). The regional variation of labour force is also highlighted in terms of their distribution. Agricultural activity shows an even distribution among 64 districts. On the other hand, non-agricultural activity shows scattered or an uneven distribution because of differing development levels in 64 districts. The changing pattern of labour force shows the trend that the non-agricultural labour force shifts agricultural labour force over the time 1974-2000. The crude activity rate has also shown a marked changing pattern. The definitional problems and related factors often cause fluctuating changes in labour force structure in the country.
