On Saturday, the 3rd inst. , the Council of the Royal Society of Tasmania received from the trustees of the British Museum (Natural History), through the kind offices of Sir Wm. Flower, K.C.M.G., F.R.S., the Director of the Museum, a very valuable gift of bound works, issued by the authorities of the British Museum. The whole of the works are beautifully illustrated, and will form a valuable addition to the Society's library.

In 1843 the Horticultural and Botanical Society of Van Diemen's Land was founded and became the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land for Horticulture, Botany, and the Advancement of Science in 1844.
