PURPOSE: This paper provides an overview of some challenges facing mental health practice nurses transitioning to academic life, and suggests possible strategies to prevent foreseeable difficulties.
FINDINGS: New and existing mental health faculty will benefit from a greater awareness of barriers and developing entry protocols to enhance the transition experience and reduce early workplace stressors.
PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Preparation and support for mental health staff transitioning from practice to the academe are essential to enhance the transition experience and reduce early workplace stressors.
